The McLaren Formula 1 team broke curfew on Friday night in Monaco to “comprehensively” address the issue that caused Lando Norris’s car to grind to a halt in practice.
Norris’s car switched off in practice two, losing F1’s reigning world champion crucial track time on a circuit where confidence is key.
McLaren broke the 10pm curfew – as every team is allowed to do four times a season – to work on Norris’s car.
“Following Lando’s car stopping on track in FP2 yesterday, the team carried out extensive work ahead of FP3 this morning,” McLaren said on Saturday morning.
“To investigate and address the issue comprehensively, the team elected to break curfew last night and replace the wiring harness, and also changed the ESME pack within the permitted allocation.”
The energy store main enclosure (ESME) external structure encloses multiple safety elements, sensors and wiring.
All changes were made within Norris’s allocation, so he shouldn’t receive a penalty.
Cadillac also broke the curfew on Friday night, the first time it’s done so in F1.
